You say, write it down, make it happen. What if I write it down and it doesn’t happen?
Don’t stop three feet from the gold. "One of the most common causes of failure," says Napoleon Hill, "is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat." See, Books / Write It Down, Make It Happen / Excerpt

Your Name in Print
Whether it is for the joy of seeing your name in print, or because you have a message inside you that you are burning to share with others, getting published is a thrill. When you can sit in your corner of the world, and have your thoughts and ideas travel to places you have never visited, you know the power of publication.

Having a book or articles to your credit also boosts your authority (the word author comes from the Latin auctoritas, one who has expertise in a particular field). A published book is your calling card for promotion or when you are seeking a new position. When you have written a book, you have national prominence, sometimes international. It can take your work to the next level, or bring you to a place you never expected.

~ If you live in or near Seattle, I will meet you in a funky Capitol Hill coffee shop, or at your place of business.

Before meeting by phone or over a latte, I will review and prepare evaluation of material you send me two weeks prior to our conversation.

I enjoy being an editor—it's like being a midwife. It's fun watch someone else's story unfold, and to be part of bringing out the best in them, shaping a manuscript for presentation to a larger audience.

As an editor, I do everything from reviewing and improving text of articles, business proposals, and full-length book proposals to mechanical and substantive edit of the entire work.

I can assist you at whatever stage and to whatever degree you need. I will help you polish a proposal or edit the entire manuscript for submission.

That includes all or some of the following:

  1. Mechanical Editing
I will read your manuscript with an eye to such matters as consistency of capitalization, spelling, and hyphenation; agreement of verbs and subjects; beginning and ending quotation marks and parentheses; number of ellipsis points; numbers given as figures or written out; parallels, breakdown of paragraphs, and other details of style.

  2. Substantive Editing
This includes rewriting, reorganizing, and suggesting alternate ways to present material. Will untwist convoluted sentences, un-mix mixed metaphors, put all modifiers in proper place, and allow no antecedents to be remote. I promise to make quick, logical, and defensible decisions. Will not tamper with unusual figures of speech, idiomatic usage, or author's own idiosyncratic imagery.

  3. Copyediting
I will pay close attention to all details, correcting misleading phrases and punctuation. I will proofread and format, establishing a consistent style for spaces between sentences, narrative pauses, headers and footers, presentation of chapters, successive pagination.

Note: The edited copy customarily goes from the editor to the author to the compositor, who makes the desired editorial changes electronically. At your request, I will personally do this part of the process as well.

As a consultant, I can help you to assess the marketability of your book idea, and coach you on breaking into print, either for a full-length book, or articles in magazines and newspapers. If you are working on a book project, I will guide you in preparing a Book Proposal, and if the work is worthy, I can help you find an agent.

I retain Theme Park rights for any project I work on, open to negotiation.
