With Pen in Hand

The name Perseus comes from the Greek god who slew Medusa. It is also the name of a constellation. When I signed with Perseus, it felt like I had hitched my wagon to a star. Marnie Cochran, my editor, gave birth to a little girl named Katherine during the time that we were working together, so creativity and new life were the signature of this book. Marnie was the one who came up with the term RealTime™ Writing to describe writing in the moment, to ground your emotions when they are threatening to overwhelm you. I like that. I had been advocating that for years, and using it myself, but I had never put a name on it.
